SST 884 (NEW Short grower – Limited seed available for 2012)

A semi – dwarf variety with a slightly longer growth period than that of SST843.

  • Well adapted to both the cooler and warmer irrigation areas.
  • Yields significantly higher than SST843.
  • Displays good resistance to both yellow rust and powdery mildew.
  • Has the "stay green" characteristic, which is an indicator of drought tolerance.
  • Good lodging tolerance due to the presence of solid stem trait.
  • Has an excellent root system which improves the uptake of nutrients and water.
  • Copes well with root diseases.
  • Has excellent grading quality.

SST 875 (NEW BLOCKBUSTER)

This cultivar out performs most commercially available cultivars by between 6-10%.

  • SST 875 is a medium to short growing cultivar with the flexibility of later planting.
  • The cultivar has good lodging tolerance and root development due to its solid stem.
  • SST 875 also has "stay green" characteristic which is widely thought of as an indicator of drought tolerance in wheat.
  • SST875 also has excellent grading and baking qualities.

SST 875

SST 867 (NEW)

SSST 867 is the first irrigation cultivar of Sensako that is released exclusively for KwaZulu Natal. This cultivar has a great yield potential as well as good yield stability for the irrigation regions of KwaZulu Natal.

  • The cultivar has a solid stem giving it the attributes of a good straw strength (lodging tolerance) and root development.
  • SST 867 has good stem rust resistance.
  • SST 867's grading and baking qualities are good.

SST 867

SST 866 (NEW)

SST 866 has great yield potential as well as good yield stability, especially for the warmer irrigation areas of South Africa. During the first commercial productions of SST 866 in the warmer areas, SST866 yielded most other commercially available cultivars by as much as 10%. SST 866 gave a constant commercial yield of 8 ton/ha over a wide area in the warmer irrigation region.

  • Like SST 875 and SST 867 SST 866, also has a solid stem resulting in good straw strength (lodging tolerance) and root development.
  • The grading and baking quality of SST 866 is also good.

SST 866

SST 877

Released commercially in 2010, SST 877 has good yield potential and a relatively longer growth period making it suitable for earlier planting dates.

  • Good yield potential in both cooler and warmer irrigation areas.
  • Good resistance to yellow rust and stem rust.
  • Good lodging tolerance due to its solid stem trait.
  • Good milling and baking attributes.

SST 877

SST 843

A short (double dwarf) cultivar for all irrigation areas with the shortest growing season of all irrigation cultivars in South Africa. This makes it well suited for later planting dates which is an advantage where early harvesting is important to plant summer crops.

  • Double dwarf cultivar with an even shorter growth period than SST 822.
  • Well adapted to both the cooler and warmer irrigation areas for later plantings.
  • Due to its shorter straw length, SST 843 can utilize higher nitrogen levels without lodging.
  • Good resistance to yellow rust and powdery mildew.
  • Excellent Karnal Bunt tolerance.
  • Theoretically susceptible to Fusarium, but the yield data showed some tolerance to this disease in comparison to existing cultivars.
  • Excellent hectolitre mass, protein content and high falling number.

SST 843

SST 835

  • Excellent and stable yield potential (especially in the cooler and KwaZulu Natal areas)
  • First wheat cultivar in South Africa to be developed and released using the Doubled haploid Technique.
  • Excellent lodging tolerance due to the solid stem trait.
  • Good resistance to yellow rust and powdery mildew.
  • Good tolerance to Karnal Bunt.

CRN 826

A unique wheat cultivar that combines excellent yield potential with excellent milling and baking attributes.

  • Medium growth period and is suited to both earlier and later planting dates.
  • Well adapted to both the cooler and warmer irrigation.
  • Good yellow rust and powdery mildew resistance.
  • Good lodging tolerance at high yielding levels due to the solid stem trait.

SST 806

An older cultivar with excellent yield potential in both the cooler and warmer irrigation areas.

  • Excellent lodging tolerance due to the solid stem trait.
  • Good resistance to yellow rust and powdery mildew.
  • Biological standard for quality testing.

SST 876

An older cultivar with good yield potential in both the cooler and warmer irrigation areas, especially in gravel soil.

  • Has the best expression of solid stem trait giving it excellent lodging tolerance.
  • Good resistance to yellow rust.

SST 822

Due to its short growing period, it is suitable for late planting, especially where farmers need to plant harvest earlier in order to plant a summer crop.

  • A double dwarf cultivar for the irrigation areas.
  • Excellent lodging tolerance, can therefore utilise higher nitrogen levels without lodging.
  • Well adapted to the cooler and warmer irrigation areas, with a medium yield potential.
  • Excellent yellow rust resistance and adult plant resistance for stem rust.
  • Excellent Karnal Bunt tolerance.
  • Good hectolitre mass and a high falling number.
